PRE RACE VIDEO

Because of the large number of athletes we have this year, we highly recommend picking up your packet on Friday at Wrightsville Beach ParkThis has been moved from Two Wheeler Dealer.  Packet pick-up hours have been extended by one hour to 7pm (beginning at Noon).

You must pickup your own packet and show ID.  You cannot get another participants packet.

Bike Check: 4pm to 7:30pm

Saturday (9/25)

Location: Wrightsville Beach Park - Race site

Race Numbers

Please know your official race number when you come to packet pick-up on either Friday or on race day. Knowing your number will speed up the process.

Official race numbers are posted HERE

Timing Chip Pick-Up

Timing chips must be picked up on race morning between 5:00am an 6:30am at Wrightsville Beach Park

At the timing chip tent, there will be three stations.

Station 1)  Individuals – #1 – #400
Station 2)  Individuals – #401 & up
Station 3)  Relay Teams, Youth Race, P2P

NOTE:  Individuals and relay teams in the triathlon as well as participants in the youth triathlon must have their run bib number with them in order to pick up their timing chip.
Participants in the Pier-2-Pier race must have their numbered swim cap in order to get their timing ship.

Transition Area

Pre-Race Bike Check-In:

We highly recommend that participants take advantage of the optional bike check-in on Friday. Bikes can be checked into the transition areas on Friday from 4pm until 7:30pm.

Security guards will be present throughout the night.

ONLY PARTICIPANTS ARE ALLOWED IN THE TRANSITION AREA AT ANY TIME.
The transition area will have five entrances/exits:
1) Main Transition Area Entrance/Exit (large inflatable)
2) Swim Finish entrance
3) Bike Start exit
4) Bike Finish entrance
5) Run Start exit

These entrances and exits will be clearly identified through the use of large inflatable archways.
Once the race starts and you’re racing, make sure you come in and out of the transition area through the appropriate inflatable archway. If you’re finishing the swim and heading into the transition area to start the bike, make sure you run through the inflatable archway that reads SWIM FINISH. The inflatable archway next to that one will be for RUN START, so you don’t want to run through that one. At the other end of the transition area will be the BIKE START and BIKE FINISH archways. Please use the designated TRANSITION AREA ENTRANCE/EXIT before the race (to rack your bike and set up your transition) and after you’ve finished racing (to remove your bike and gear).

Once the race starts – unless you’re racing – DO NOT go in or out of any transition area entrances/exits other than the large main entrance. The timing mats will have been activated at those locations, and we don’t want your race time to be screwed up.

Bike Racking:
1. All individuals racing in the triathlon will have their own numbered bike slot. Find your numbered bike rack and then find your specific space on that rack. You’ll notice that half the numbers on the bike rack face one direction and the other half face the other direction. Place your bike on the rack centered on your number and facing the same direction as your number. Wheel is down on the same side as your number. This will allow for more space be- tween bikes for placing your gear. Each rack accommodates six bikes - three bikes on one side and three bikes on the other side.
3. Place your bike seat on the bike rack, DO NOT PUT YOUR HANDLE BARS ON THE RACK
4. Place your transition gear under your bike

Here is a refresher video on how to set up your Transition Area

Relay Teams:

Relay teams will have a separate large corral within the transition area. There won’t be bike racks, so bikers on the relay teams are invited to lean their bikes up against the transition area fencing at a location of your choosing – inside the relay corral.

Both relay team transitions – swimmer to biker and then biker to runner will take place in this corral.

This corral will be located at the end of the transition area nearest the Run Start & Swim Finish inflatable arches.

Youth Triathlon:

All participants in the youth triathlon will have a separate corral inside the large transition area. Participants are invited to lean their bikes up against the transition area fencing inside this corral or lay bikes down on the ground in one of the marked off boxes.

This corral will be located at the end of the transition area nearest the Run Start & Swim Finish inflatable arches.

GETTING TO THE START

All participants will walk to the start which will allow athletes to social distance prior to the race.  The start is a 3/4 mile walk or jog from transition. You may wear shoes or carry other items with you to the swim start.  We will have a trailer at the swim start for you to leave your items in, and they will be taken back to the transition area for you to pick up after the race. Either bring your own athlete bag to leave your personal items in, or we will provide you with a disposable one.

We will have one traffic lane closed from Wynn Plaza to the Blockade Runner Beach Start area with bathrooms located on the way.

COMPLEMENTARY RACE BEER

All triathlon athletes ages 21+ will receive a complementary beer thanks to our sponsors Wicked Weed Brewing and Lighthouse Beer and Wine. Bring your race bib to Lighthouse Beer and Wine (220 Causeway Dr, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480) on Friday 9/24 or Saturday 9/25 to redeem your celebratory beer!

COVID PROTOCOLS

To comply with our county’s local guidelines and recommendations, we will be putting the following practices in place to maintain social distance and minimize contact between athletes so that we can safely hold this year’s event:

1.  Mask Up: All athletes and spectators will be required to wear a mask at ALL TIMES, with the exception of the race itself. From packet pickup, to race morning, walking to the start and until you get to the Blockade Runner Sound Side Beach.  Masks will be required. You are to provide your own disposable mask in the morning when you arrive.  You will wear this mask to the start and then dispose of it before entering the water (we will have trashcans available).  At the finish, you will be provided another disposable mask.  Please put the mask on IMMEDIATELY after you get some fluids.

2.  Pre-Race Health Screening: Athletes will receive an electronic health screening 48 hours prior to the race. All athletes will need to complete this three-question health screening before race day.

3.  Pre-Race Bike Check In (RECOMMENDED): There will be an optional pre-race bike check in on Friday, September 24th from 4:00pm-7:30pm before the race to reduce crowds the morning of the race.  We will have security to watch over the bikes Friday evening.

4.  Self Body Marking: You will self body mark before the event.  Bib number on both arms, just above both knees and your age on the back of each calf.  Have a family or friend do this for you.

5.  Walk to Start: All participants will walk to the start which will increase the ability to social distance prior to the race.  The start is a 3/4 mile walk or jog from transition.
